Scholarship Information
In addition to the many private scholarships available nationwide, Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) currently offers 13 scholarships for the 2025 academic year. All students who are accepted will be considered for any available scholarships. Our Financial aid team will reach out to you for any additional information that may be requested to further qualify your candidacy for one of the below scholarship opportunities.
Meritus Auxiliary Regional Scholars Program
One (1) Scholarship of $55,000 for each of four years for a total of $220,000 over 4 years.
Donor: This scholarship was established by the Meritus Auxiliary, a network of volunteers who devote their time to supporting the work of Meritus Health. They made this very first scholarship gift in the history of MSOM to ensure Meritus continues to bring the best physicians to our region.
Eligibility: Funded through a generous donation by the Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary this scholarship provides a full 100% tuition for one student who graduated from high school in the Greater Washington County, Maryland region. Preference will be given to students who graduated from a school in Washington County.
Requirement: The scholarship is structured as a forgivable loan. After residency, the student will be offered employment with Meritus at fair market wages, benchmarked by MGMA for your specialty. If the student remains employed with Meritus for 5 years post residency, the loan will be fully forgiven. If the employment requirements are not met, a pro-rated portion of the loan must be repaid to MSOM. If the student is not offered employment due to a failure to complete residency in good standing, the full loan amount must be repaid to MSOM.
Meritus Health Scholars Program
Four (4) Scholarships of $25,000 for each of four years for a total of $100,000 per recipient
Donor: This scholarship was established by Meritus Health who wants to ensure that the community thrives by bringing the best and brightest future physicians to our region.
Eligibility: Any applicant who is admitted to MSOM will be considered based on financial need and merit.
Requirement: The scholarship is structured as a forgivable loan. After residency, the student will be offered employment with Meritus at fair market wages, benchmarked by MGMA for your specialty. If the student remains employed with Meritus for 5 years post residency, the loan will be fully forgiven. If the employment requirements are not met, a pro-rated portion of the loan must be repaid to MSOM. If the student is not offered employment due to a failure to complete residency in good standing, the full loan amount must be repaid to MSOM.
Meritus President's Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship will be awarded to one student in the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) inaugural class. The scholarship award will be $25,000 a year for four years for a total of $100,000. The award will be provided annually contingent on meeting high performance standards each of the four years and a successful MSOM graduation.
Donor: This scholarship was funded by the President of MSOM, Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H.
Eligibility: The Presidential Scholarship will be awarded to a student from an underserved or marginalized community and who has demonstrated outstanding undergraduate achievements and extracurricular activities that demonstrate a clear passion and an incredible capability for being a physician that is socially responsible and community oriented.
Prospective students should indicate their interest in the scholarship in the application process with a one page statement that articulates why they should be considered and the underserved or marginalized community they represent. Upon acceptance to MSOM, the prospective student will be notified of award of the Presidential Scholarship.
Meritus Leaders Scholarship
The Meritus Leaders Scholarship will be awarded to one student in the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) inaugural class. The scholarship award will be $25,000 per year for four years for a total of $100,000. The award will be provided annually contingent on remaining in good academic standing.
Donor: This scholarship was funded by donations from senior leaders within Meritus.
Eligibility: This scholarship will be awarded to a student based on academic merit and financial need.
Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
Six (6) Scholarships of $26,000 for each of four years for a total of $104,000 over 4 years.
Donor: These scholarships were made possible by the generosity of Washington County Chamber of Commerce who received a grant from Maryland Physicians Care to establish the program.
Eligibility: Any applicant who is admitted to MSOM will be considered. Preference is given based on meeting criterial set by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce including: ties to the region, community engagement, willingness to participate in Chamber activities, financial need, merit, and a blinded review of essays that will be requested of top candidates.
Requirement: The scholarship is structured as a forgivable loan. After residency, the student will be offered employment with Meritus at fair market wages, benchmarked by MGMA for your specialty. If the student remains employed with Meritus for 5 years post residency, the loan will be fully forgiven. If the employment requirements are not met, a pro-rated portion of the loan must be repaid to MSOM. If the student is not offered employment due to a failure to complete residency in good standing, the full loan amount must be repaid to MSOM.
